AAB - Ellie Gettinger

Ellie Gettinger is the Education Director at Jewish Museum Milwaukee; the Museum explores the history of Jewish Milwaukee and it opened in 2008. Gettinger has been with the Museum for almost nine years and has created all the education programs for the Museum. Her proudest professional experience is the creation of the internationally-renowned exhibit, Stitching History From the Holocaust, which recreated the life and dresses of a Czech dress designer who died in the Holocaust. She really enjoys translating the story of the Jewish people to diverse groups from inner city 4th graders to older adults experiencing memory loss. Gettinger is married to a Milwaukee-radio personality, Mitch “Thunder” Nelles (yep that is his handle) and they enjoy fighting about the Patriots and supporting their local theater scene. They have two daughters, Hallie (age 5) and Nora (almost 3, going on 15), who they love to show the power of Jewish community through personal and professional involvement.  Ellie recently started a Master’s Program through the Spertus Institute for Jewish Studies in Chicago, Illinois, which she hopes to finish in 2017.
